I was born in March 1943 in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. From a very early age I had a love of Aviation, with Southend-on-Sea's Rochford Airport being very close. At the age of 16 I gained employment with a Logistics company in the City of London. I eventually became manager of their operation at Heathrow Airport and enjoyed many years working in this business, during which time I travelled abroad regularly. I moved to Oliva in 2001 with my wife Patricia. We have joined local Spanish societies and made many friends through these. Some of my interests are; Dancing, Fallas, Reading, Travel,Wine, Cooking and of course Aviation.

I was born in Devon and at the age of 9 moved to Kenya, where we lived for 10 years. I started my working life as an accountant, and then became a financial adviser (more money and much more fun!). I moved to Spain with my husband (who died 5 years ago), in 1995. We lived on Monte Pego, and then moved to Benirrama. I have one son, who lives here, and 5 stepdaughters, plus numerous stepgrandchildren. My hobbies are U3A groups (various), watercolour painting, and watching sport. (Keen supporter of Manchester United!)

I was born and raised in Birmingham. I attended Birmingham University and have worked as a librarian and civil servant. I escaped from the U.K. in 1992 and have lived in Oliva ever since. Prior to coming to live in Spain I travelled extensively in Europe and a little in the United States. My principle interests are literature (especially twentieth century) art, political history (mainly European and American), cinema, music (not classical or jazz) and being trained by my dog (Chico) who seems to worry inordinately about my inability to cope with everyday life (something I regard as perfectly normal). I am completely new to U3A and am curious to see how it will change and develop over the next couple of years.

Simon Acres                                                                           Responsibilities

I am a retired Hotelier. We retired to a life in Spain in 1990 with our two children who both still live out here. Our 16 year old son still lives at home so I am still very tied up with family life. I am a Windsor lad but all of our hotels have been in mid or north Wales. My interests are all types of sport but my love is Arsenal Football Club. Most of my time is taken up with gardening which I would enjoy a lot more if there was not so much of it. Also being an unpaid taxi service for my son.

Lynda Acres (Events organiser)                                               Responsibilities

I worked alongside my husband in our Hotels as general dogsbody in all departments. We retired to Spain in 1990. We have two children, a boy and a girl, who both live and work here in Spain. They both take up a lot of our time. We first lived in Jesus Pobre and then moved into Javea which we hated so moved out of town again. We joined Javea U3A and moved to Denia U3A when it started, which we still belong to. I enjoy sewing of all kinds but prefer cross-stitch, cooking for friends, not family, Sudoku, and a small amount of gardening, and I am afraid to admit watching soaps. (I dislike football)

Karmanie Hastings(Groups' Co-ordinator)                              Responsibilities

karmanie.jpg I’m Scottish, born in Galloway. I spent most of my adult life around Glasgow and Stirling, working in schools and colleges with students with Learning Difficulties and Special Needs.     After an early burn-out I retrained as a Holistic Therapist and had my own business in this field. Seven years ago, with husband Ted and big dog Fionn, we finally managed to move full-time to Oliva, where we have had a house since 1990.  I love to travel and meet new people. I believe strongly in a self-help community and I’m definitely more into eating than walking.  This siesta-fiesta lifestyle suits me very well, but I also enjoy singing, writing and cooking

I was born in Manchester where we lived until I was 5 years old and then we moved to Cleveleys. We came to Oliva in 2002 after selling our Computer business. We are fortunate to have retired at an early age. We have totally renovated our Villa in the past 7 years so that has been keeping us busy. My main passion in life is my dogs. We have 4 Staffordshire Bull Terriers imported from England and an American Stafford bought in Denia. I also like classic cars - my husband has a 1965 Ford Mustang, a 1966 Beetle and an AC Cobra; we enjoy trips out in them and take part in rallies. I like cooking and trying out new recipes. I am looking forward to joining the committee of the U3A and seeing how things are done.
