The purpose of this group is to encourage those members who like to write in any genre - short stories - poetry and even those who are tackling that elusive book that apparently we all have in us.
We are looking at how to find agents, publishers, self-publishing and other areas of assistance that all budding writers want to know.
Since the formation of the group last year, many of our group members have submitted good work in the form of selected short stories, and it is the intention to have a book of this work published for sale to people in the u3a and outside. This is in the process of being put together and with a bit of luck should be finalised this year.
We also are producing a group tale entitled THE IMMIGRANT which is being written by different members each month, again hoping that eventually we might have a book that might interest a publisher somewhere. It is an exciting project and stretching the imagination of a good cross section of the group, both male and female.
We also have good reference books for writers purchased by u3a Oliva for our members use - these are held by the group leader and are available on short term loan to members of the group.
At our last meeting on 10th March, the majority of the meeting was taken up with The Immigrant and reading two new chapters that had been produced by different members. Considerable discussion also took place regarding where the story was going, and how we could tie up some of the loose ends that had become apparent.
This will continue at the next meeting on Wednesday 24th March at 11.30. Should any members have other work they wish to discuss and consider, of course that too will be discussed.
Anyone who has an interest in writing in any shape or form is more than welcome to join us at our scheduled meetings at any time. We would be more than interested to hear from anyone who has an artistic bent and the ability to line draw or illustrate. This is of particular interest regarding the future book of short stories, where some form of illustration would make the publication a bit more interesting. Anyone who can help with this should contact the group leader on the email address quoted above.
